Sean McDermott was fired as the Bills’ head coach after serving as their head coach for a total of nine years following their 33-30 loss to the Denver Broncos in their 2025 NFL divisional round fixture.
After taking over the Bills in 2017, the franchise has qualified for the playoffs eight times out of nine under the stewardship of McDermott, which also includes two conference championship appearances in 2020 and 2024. However, lack of Super Bowl appearances over the last nine years could’ve been one of the primary reasons behind their longtime head coach’s firing.
Following his firing, attention has also shifted to Sean McDermott’s wife, Jamie, who has suddenly found herself in the public eye.
Sean and Jamie first crossed paths while they were students at the College of William & Mary. Their relationship eventually led to marriage, with the couple subsequently welcoming three children together.
Their eldest daughter, Maddie, was eight years old when Sean took over as the Buffalo Bills head coach in 2017. Their son, Gavin, was six at the time, while their youngest child, Kelly, was still an infant. Since then, the McDermott family has built their life in Western New York.
Meanwhile, McDermott’s wife, Jamie, in an interview with The Athletic, revealed the former Buffalo coach’s initial days with the Bills. He famously eliminated video games and air hockey tables from the locker room, banned explicit music, and introduced a dress code for team travel. But over time, Jamie has revealed how McDermott has turned into a multifaceted coach now.
“I think he’s developed into a more multifaceted coach over the years. When he started, I think it was more just let’s win, win, win, win”, Jamie revealed.
Beyond football, the couple are also deeply involved in charitable work around Buffalo. Both Sean and Jamie have made several visits to Oishei Children’s Hospital and collaborated with local grocery stores to organize food drives for families dealing with food allergies and other dietary needs.
GM Brandon Beane Tasked With Finding New HC Post McDermott Firing
After McDermott’s firing from the Bills, there were a lot of questions around their General Manager Brandon Beane’s status with the franchise. Reportedly, Beane is now set to retain his GM title and is tasked with finding a new head coach for the Bills ahead of the 2026 season.
Replacing someone of McDermott’s stature won’t be easy for Beane, considering his NFL coaching experience of more than 25 years. But it won’t come as a surprise if the Bills look for an out-of-the-box pick to fill in their head coach vacancy come next season.
