Russell Wilson’s NFL journey seems to be at an end. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the veteran quarterback is signing a deal to become a CBS Sports analyst. This ends rumors that he was moving across town to join the New York Jets after a stint with the Giants.
Fans seemed to think this was to be an expected end to a storied career that saw him win a Super Bowl, ten Pro Bowl selections, and the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
“Lol, NFL retired him. Once he gets on that analyst couch, it’s over. Great career, tho. The legion of boom Seahawks era was legendary,” said one fan
Others pointed out how star-studded the CBS lineup is becoming.
“Brings recent championship experience to an already elite, established studio lineup,” said someone else
Others were already looking far into the future.
“He might be a first ballet HOFer and i don’t know what to think about it,” wrote one fan
Others were happy to see him retire.
“Bout damn time. Was sad seeing G on that field last couple of years trying to keep up lol,” explained one individual
“It’s reported that Russ thought CBS offered a clearer Super Bowl path than the Jets did,” said someone mocking the options available to the veteran quarterback
“The Broncos paid $85M to make him go away and CBS paid him to talk about it. Business is booming,” joked another person
A few fans weren’t that happy to see him move to the commentator’s booth.
“Please understand that this man is so uniquely unlikable, that I would rather watch him play on sundays than have to listen to him speak,” said one person
How did Russell Wilson do after leaving the Seattle Seahawks?
Russell Wilson left Seattle in 2022 for the Denver Broncos. At the time, he signed a blockbuster deal worth $245 million. But the marriage ended up being short and bitter, with him leading them to back-to-back losing years. 4-11 in 2022 and 7-8 in 2023.
From there, he went on to have a single year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which ended up being the highlight of his late career. He led them to a playoff berth and earned his 10th Pro Bowl call-up. They had a record 6-5 that season, but fell in the Wild Card Round to the Baltimore Ravens.
Wilson started 2025 as the Giants’ QB1, but after a 0-3 start, he lost the job to rookie Jaxson Dart.
