Roman Hemby is gearing up for what is likely to be his final college football game. However, with his college chapter closing, his professional football chapter is likely just beginning.
Armed with a high level of visibility in the college championship, a great outing could kick the door open for an early second or first round selection. Such a showing would help erase any questions about Hemby’s choice to leave behind the Maryland Terrapins, a choice Hemby was originally recommended to make by his mother, per The Baltimore Banner.
“I kinda was the force behind that a little bit,” Roman’s mother said. “I thought, ‘How awesome would that be? For us and for him. Sleep in his own bed when he wants. Eat a home-cooked meal when he wants. And jet back to school in the morning.’”
Here’s a look at potential landing spots that would be the best fits for the Hoosiers running back as he prepares to change teams once again.
Roman Hemby Potential NFL Landing Spots That Make Sense
#5 – Cincinnati Bengals
Chase Brown was never expected by many to dominate as a player who could take significant pressure off Joe Burrow. However, with Joe Mixon gone, it’s time for the franchise to pull the trigger on a premium rookie like Roman Hemby.
Hemby’s 4.9 career average yards per carry towers over Brown’s 4.3 yards per carry. If Cincinnati wants to help out Joe Burrow without dumping a draft class on defense, getting a quality run game is the next best thing.
#4 – Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders have little reason to settle with Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Chris Rodriguez Jr. after flip-flopping between the two in 2025. As such, arming Jayden Daniels with a premium rookie running back could be one of the final pieces to getting the offense back on track in 2026.
#3 – New Orleans Saints
The days of Alvin Kamara ruling the backfield are likely coming to an end. As such, turning the page and injecting some youth into an already young offense is logical. With New Orleans attempting to gear up for a playoff push in 2026, getting a back with significant college football playoff experience could help more than one might think.
#2 – Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are doing some soul-searching with a roster in need of a tune-up. One of the top priorities for the team will be to find a long-term solution at running back with the duo of Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco running out of gas in 2025. Adding Roman Hemby as a player who can catch and rush could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
#1 – Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings could move on from J.J. McCarthy or give the quarterback one last shot in 2026. Either way, the team cannot afford to sit on its laurels in the running back room that is led by a running back heading into an age 32 season. Adding Hemby as a second-round pick behind a new quarterback could be the facelift Minnesota needs.
