Is Rashan Gary A Good Fit For Dallas? Comparing Dak Prescott’s New Teammate To Trey Hendrickson

Ahead of the 2026 NFL season, teams are on the lookout for the best combination that will propel their franchise to new heights while the players continue to find their next best destination.

Amidst all the players that have inked new contracts with their new franchises, defensive end Rashan Gary and his potential new franchise have been the talk of the town lately.

After reportedly being traded to the Dallas Cowboys from the Green Bay Packers, Rashan Gary becomes the latest player to join the current bandwagon of trades ahead of the new NFL campaign. In exchange for Gray being traded to the Dallas-based franchise, Green Bay are all set to receive a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Being one of the most consistent edge rushers in the league over the past seven seasons, Gray is all set to link up with the Cowboys’ standout quarterback Dak Prescott, with the duo expected to create a potent partnership come next season.

However, with the signing of Gray to the Cowboys, this creates a very interesting situation with another one of Dallas’ prospects who has been heavily linked to the franchise this past week.

While there are no confirmations of the closure of this deal, Cincinnati Bengals’ defensive end Trey Hendrickson too has been on the Cowboys’ target list in recent times. However, with Gray now confirmed to don the Cowboys’ colors next season, getting Hendrickson in the same spot may be a redundant decision from the franchise and a futile destination for the player too, considering the depth chart of the franchise.

From a purely statistical perspective, 28-year-old Rashan over the past seven NFL seasons has garnered a total of 46.5 sacks, including a Pro Bowl feature back in 2024.

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Hendrickson has managed to amass a total of 35 sacks in the last two campaigns, but with the caveat of missing 10 games last season.

Perhaps the Cowboys’ decision to prioritize Gary’s signing over his Bengal’s counterpart could be influenced by factors like age, fitness, and game time.

Which Franchises Could Land Trey Hendrickson?

While the Cowboys have not yet officially closed the doors on getting Trey Hendrickson on board, the signing of Rashan Gray could potentially open the doors for other franchises vying for Hendrickson’s signature. For now, Mike Vrabel’s New England Patriots could do with a veteran defensive piece given Edge K’ Lavon Chaisson is soon expected to become a free agent.

However, insider Terry McCormick has also put in an interesting name in the form of the Tennessee Titans as Hendrickson’s next potential stop. While the insider has revealed that Hendrickson has Titans on his radar, it will be interesting to see if the franchise reciprocates the same sentiment.
