Patrick Mahomes’ Training Camp Video Encouraged By Pat McAfee

Will Patrick Mahomes be ready for Week 1 of the NFL? According to the latest intel Pat McAfee has, he should be. On Monday’s “Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN, the former NFL kicker-turned-sports pundit talked about the latest videos of the quarterback in practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

While watching the videos of Mahomes practicing in a yellow non-contact shirt, he said:

“Has a knee brace that’s very heavy, very thick, obviously, but he’s rolling to his left, which is obviously towards his plant foot. Cross-body throws this quick, this early, whenever they’re wondering if he was going to be back for Week 1, this feels like good news.”

He also pointed out the observations made by David Chao, a former physician for the Chargers, who provides analysis on the injury status of NFL players. Chao indicated that, everything being equal, it looks like Patrick Mahomes would be ready for Week 1 but that it wasn’t a certainty yet.

Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL and LCL injury on Dec. 14 during a Week 15 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers. The defeat also eliminated Kansas City from postseason contention for the first time since 2014.

Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, celebrates his return to practice

Someone who celebrated Patrick Mahomes’ return to practice on Saturday with the Chiefs was his wife, Brittany Mahomes.

“Seeing him back doing what he loves,” Brittany wrote on her Instagram Stories on Saturday alongside a reposted video of Patrick arriving at training camp. “So thankful.”

Mahomes spoke on Friday with the press, before the start of training camp, and shared the plans were for his progression through it:

“It was always the goal to be able to practice when we got to training camp, so we kind of hit that next step, and now it’s going to be about building and keep getting better and better so that whenever the regular season comes along I can try to be available and ready to play,” Mahomes told the press.

Mahomes arrived far ahead of the veterans and has been working with the rookies so far. The rest of the veterans are set to report on Tuesday.

While it isn’t certain he will be available for Week 1 of the NFL, it’s clear that Patrick Mahomes is making his best effort to be ready in time.
