Patrick Mahomes Drops Message for Texas Tech’s Softball Team After Loss to Tennessee

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has never shied away from expressing support for his alma mater, the Texas Tech Red Raiders. His love for the university runs deeper than just the football team, as Mahomes has publicly supported the school’s other sports teams. Most recently, Mahomes showed support for the Red Raiders’ softball team, which lost in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women’s College World Series.

The Red Raiders faced the Tennessee Volunteers, who were coming off a heated battle against the Texas Longhorns, for a spot in the semifinals. Throughout the game, Mahomes posted supportive messages on his X/Twitter. After Texas Tech lost to the Volunteers, Mahomes ended his series of posts with a motivational message for the softball team, who will face the Longhorns in the losers’ bracket.

    “Bounce back tomorrow!” he wrote.

Mahomes has been in the NFL for almost a decade, but it seems he truly values his time with the Texas Tech program. The 30-year-old played three years with the Red Raiders from 2014 to 2016. Mahomes never won a national championship while he was at Texas Tech. Individually, though, he accomplished a lot in college and was eventually picked by the Chiefs with the 10th pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Patrick Mahomes on the recent moves of the Kansas City Chiefs recruitment staff

Patrick Mahomes recently commented on the moves the Kansas City Chiefs’ recruitment staff attempted to make this offseason. In an article by Chiefs insider Ed Easton Jr. on the Chiefs Wire, Mahomes was asked about the rumors of eight-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Cam Jordan coming to Kansas.

“I didn’t do much recruiting; I’ll leave that to (General Manager Brett) Veach and the guys. I think we recruit ourselves just by who we are. I like having veterans around and guys like that, and at that tournament, they’re the only guys that can get off work that week. There was some good football players there, but I didn’t do any recruiting in that standpoint, I think I’ll leave that to Veach and the guys,” Mahomes was quoted as saying.
