Erling Haaland’s run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup came to an end, as Norway fell to England in a scorching afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, on Saturday.
The Three Lions defeated the Vikings 2-1 in the quarterfinals, a match that went into extra time.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the 55th minute, Norway had a goal disallowed after Haaland pushed England’s Elliot Anderson in the build-up, which VAR caught. NFL analyst Mina Kimes, however, found this unfair for Haaland, who is worth $100 million (Celebrity Net Worth).
“It’s not my man Haaland’s fault that he’s bigger and stronger than everyone,” she tweeted.
A goal for Norway could’ve completely changed the direction of the encounter. In the end, the nations remained tied at the end of regulation time. However, England’s Jude Bellingham broke the deadlock in the 93rd minute off a rebound from goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland following a strong shot by Morgan Rogers from outside the box.
England held on for the win, advancing to the semifinals.
Erling Haaland on Norway’s 2026 World Cup run
After the game, Erling Haaland spoke with USA Today about Norway’s World Cup run. Even in defeat, the Manchester City forward was proud of the historic run he helped take his country on:
“I think how we put Norway on the map is maybe one thing that touches me the most,” Haaland said, via USA Today’s Meghan L. Hall. “I think with the (viking) row, how good people we are … I think that really touches me, and we put Norway on the map. Hopefully, now, we can establish something when it comes to Euros, World Cups, and everything because our generation is amazing.”
Haaland scored seven goals in the tournament. Norway finished second in a group that included Senegal, Iraq, and France. In the Round of 32, they beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 and then defeated Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16 thanks to a brace from Haaland.
