After a grueling month of intense soccer games, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has now entered its penultimate round, with four nations now vying to get their hands on the prestigious World Cup trophy.
One of the biggest talking points of Saturday’s quarterfinal matchup between Argentina and Switzerland was Swiss forward Breel Embolo’s ejection for what was ruled a deliberate dive. While a yellow card was initially awarded to Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes for a foul on Embolo, the Video Assistant Referee overturned the decision upon seeing Embolo flop in a replay.
Former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III said on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday that similar officiating techniques should be implemented in the NBA and NFL to crack down on flopping.
“FIFA just used VAR to replay a player flopping and gave him a yellow card. NBA and NFL need to implement this ASAP,” Griffin TWEETED.
Having already been booked earlier in the game, Embolo’s second yellow card in the 70th minute saw him leave the field for the remainder of the match.
The 10-man Switzerland team eventually succumbed 3-1 to defending champion Argentina in extra time.
Robert Griffin III Sends Blunt Message After McGregor’s UFC 329 TKO
Conor McGregor’s much-anticipated return to the ring did not go well for him at UFC 329 on Saturday, with his comeback fight against Max Holloway lasting only 69 seconds courtesy of his knee injury, which subsequently resulted in a TKO defeat for the former MMA champion.
Reacting to the abrupt end of McGregor’s bout, Robert Griffin III called for the Irish fighter’s retirement.
“Conor McGregor needs to retire. It’s over,” Griffin wrote on X
Robert Griffin III understands the impact injuries can have on a player’s career, having battled multiple setbacks throughout his eight-year NFL career.
