After 18 seasons as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, John Harbaugh was fired. However, the legacy he left behind was so much to respect that even the President of the United States, Donald Trump, called him a “great coach” and urged NFL teams to hire him, especially the New York Giants.
After the Giants officially hired him as the head coach, in the introductory press conference, Harbaugh was confronted with questions about Trump’s endorsement. In response, Harbaugh said the president suggested that he take that job and mentioned that Giants CEO John Mara had something to do with it.
Fans expressed their unhappiness with Harbaugh’s mention about Trump as they shared their reactions on X:
“Disgraceful,” one fan wrote.
“kinda wild how politics and sports keep mixing up like this,” another fan reacted.
“Most iconic? Alright now John,” one fan added.
“If Harbaugh wasn’t a Trumper, I’d have so much more respect for him. But I also think the question was uncalled for,” one fan added.
“Most iconic? What team does he think he’s coaching?” one fan asked.
“Who in gods name asked this question,” one fan wrote.
“John Harbaugh’s presser is already mid-season form. 😂 Between the President’s endorsement and the Jaxson Dart praise, the energy in East Rutherford has shifted 180 degrees in one week. Love or hate the headlines, New York football is officially the center of the universe again,” one fan made a positive conclusion about this all.
John Harbaugh’s Contract With the New York Giants
John Harbaugh signed a five-year deal to become the head coach of the Giants. The deal is reportedly worth around $100 million, making him the highest-paid coach in the NFL.
After becoming the Giants’ head coach, Harbaugh shared pride and honor:
“This is the New York Giants. I’m proud and honored to be the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families. But most of all, I can’t wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together.”
The 63-year old will start a new chapter in New York and he has a young quarterback to work with and make the playoffs in 2026.
