Mike Vrabel is a three-time Super Bowl winner. He was part of the New England Patriots dynasty from 2001 to 2008 and won three Super Bowls as their linebacker. As a coach, so far, he has won the AFC Championship.
Vrabel took over the Patriots’ head coaching duties in January 2025 and led the team to a stellar season. The Patriots are on the brink of winning another Super Bowl if they manage to defeat the Seattle Seahawks on February 8.
Months of hard work and relentless preparation have brought the Patriots here, and now everything will be on the line this Sunday. For Vrabel, the stakes are higher than those of others, but it’s almost a lose-lose situation for him.
As a joke, Vrabel stated that he’d cut off his penis to win a Super Bowl as a coach. This was said during the offseason, and Vrabel had no idea his team would be in the final showdown and that his words would resurface.
During a recent media interaction, two hosts from the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast asked Vrabel if he remembers his words. When asked if he’d be under anesthesia after winning the Super Bowl, Vrabel said:
“I don’t need anesthesia.”
Vrabel was clearly joking, but he has talked about this several times over the last few months. He was asked if it was still part of his plan on The Greg Hill Show, and he jokingly said that he might cut it in half.
“Maybe I’ll cut it in half, but I ain’t cutting the whole thing off,”
Vrabel then clarified that he made that comment to give the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast an initial boost, which has now turned into a real conversation.
Mike Vrabel on the Patriots Being Underdogs
The New England Patriots are in the Super Bowl, and they’re being looked at as underdogs. The Patriots fans haven’t dealt with a situation like this in a very long time. But this is an indication of the beginning of a new era.
The Seattle Seahawks are clear favorites. Although the margin isn’t astronomically high, the Patriots are still underdogs. When Vrabel was asked about the same, he stated that he’s comfortable being the underdog.
“I don’t think we dislike it. That’s not anything that’s ever affected us. I don’t think we set out to worry about those types of things,” he said.
In his opinion, “someone has to” be the underdog and if it’s going to be the Patriots, it’s not a big problem for him.
