Former Miami Dolphins RB Reveals Harsh Reality Behind Mike McDaniel Getting No Locker Room Respect

Former head coach Mike McDaniel was fired by the Miami Dolphins this offseason after failing to make the playoffs for a second-straight season and finishing last season with a 7-10 record.

McDaniel was hired in 2022, and led Miami to back-to-back winning seasons and playoff appearances. But in the last two seasons, Miami has struggled with back-to-back losing seasons and not appearing in the playoffs. Along the way of the struggles, McDaniel lost the respect of the locker room according to a former player who was close to him.

Former Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert, who was released last offseason and played under McDaniel for a total of eight seasons (three in Miami, five in San Fran), detailed how McDaniel lost the locker room and “respect” of the players.

Appearing on the April 2 episode of Leonard Fournette and Jarvis Landry’s Fourth and South podcast, Mostert revealed players would cuss at and even sometimes put their hands on McDaniel.

    Mostert said:

“I do need somebody that players can respect. Respect goes a long way. I feel like there was a lack of respect just because he didn’t put any emphasis on showing respect to players, or at least, try to demand respect. If you got guy guys who cuss coaches out on the sideline, not just one time, but numerous times and put hands on the coach, like come on, that’s different now.”

Raheem Mostert Had His Best Season Of His Career With Dolphins In 2023

Raheem Mostert has had a rather interesting career for an NFL running back.

First, he’s played 11 seasons, which is much longer than the average span of a running back. He was also on five different teams in his first two seasons.

Mostert, who’s primarily been a backup for much of his NFL career, had an unusual breakout season in year nine during the 2023 season. He had a career season, rushing for over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career totaling 1,012 rushing yards and leading the league in rushing touchdowns with 18 with the Miami Dolphins.

The following season, he rushed for just 278 yards, and averaged a low 3.3 yards per carry.

Last season, Mostert appeared in 12 games for the Las Vegas Raiders.
