A.J. Brown Trade Rumors: Patriots’ Stance Raises Questions Ahead of Potential Move

With Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver AJ Brown expected to be traded this offseason, there’s been a few factors stalling the trade.

First, the Eagles are waiting until post June 1 to make a trade. A trade prior to June 1 would cost the Eagles $40 million in dead cap space. A post-June 1 trade would lower that number by more than half.

The New England Patriots are expected to be in the driver’s seat to land Brown, with the team looking to upgrade at the wide receiver position even after acquiring former Green Bay Packers wide receiver, Romeo Doubs. However, they’re only willing to give up so much for Brown and per recent reports, the Patriots are unwilling to give up a first-round pick in return for Brown.

There’s Concerns Regarding The Health of AJ Brown

On top of the Philadelphia Eagles waiting until after June 1 to trade AJ Brown, there’s concerns about his health.

On a recent episode of Patriots Talk Podcast, host and Patriots insider Tom Curran, spoke about the concerns teams have regarding the health of Brown’s knee. Curran even said that the Los Angeles Rams backed out of potentially trading for Brown due to long-term concerns with his knee.

Brown has had knee issues in the NFL, dating back to his time with the Tennessee Titans and admitted last season that he needed his knee drained twice a week during the 2024 season.

With health being a concern, the Patriots could leverage that in negotiating with the Eagles, who are reportedly seeking a first and second-round pick in return for Brown.
