Matthew Stafford’s family woke up on Sunday with Super Bowl hopes as alive as they had been in years. However, by the end of the day, it was clear that Stafford’s season was over after a brutal defeat to the rival Seattle Seahawks.
Stafford’s disappointing day didn’t stop him from his familial duties, however. Despite being beaten up in Seattle, Stafford managed to make pit stops to check on his kids in the wee hours of Monday morning. At least, that is what one video posted by Stafford’s wife to her Instagram story on Monday showed.
The video clips showed Stafford checking in on his daughters at around 2:30 am. The video was silent, and the angle didn’t show whether his kids were awake, but Stafford appeared to interact with his children. Based on the timing and the situation, it appeared that Stafford had arrived early in the morning after the kids had gone to sleep and rather than leaving it for the morning, Stafford did what he could to show his love.
Kelly Stafford included a picture of a message her husband gave to the children.
“Thank you for being such rockstars for me all season long!”The message read. “Y’all were the inspiration for daddy’s incredible year! We (heart) you!”
Kelly included a caption that read “donuts for the most supportive and resilient little girls.”
Matthew Stafford’s Concluded Season Raises New Questions
As with every quarterback over the age of 35 years old, the offseason raises retirement questions for Matthew Stafford. Stafford will turn 38 years old on Feb. 7, putting himself in a retirement window.
According to Spotrac, Stafford is still under contract through the 2026 season, but is now in a period of his contract in which Los Angeles is financially incentivized to move on from the quarterback.
Of course, with Stafford coming off one of the best seasons in his NFL career, the momentum of the situation suggests he will be back.
However, the final decision will be up to him, assuming Los Angeles officially welcomes him back. If the team decides to turn the page, he will be tasked with either retiring or moving to wherever the job market takes him. That, of course, would force a bit more resilience out of his children.
