In June, the analyst was seriously injured in a head-on collision by a semi-truck in Missouri. The accident resulted in amputation of his left arm, multiple fractures and several surgeries. Miller’s family launched a fundraising campaign to help cover his medical expenses.. Just weeks after the incident, ESPN analyst Matt Miller is now facing scrutiny for alleged fantasy football fraud.
The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has confirmed that it has opened an investigation into allegations surrounding fantasy football leagues organized by Miller over several years.
According to Awful Announcing, at least seven people initially came forward with similar accounts.
“Our Ben Koo and Brendon Kleen have spent the past week documenting a pattern of complaints tied to Miller’s fantasy football leagues, paid scouting lessons, and other charitable experiences going back nearly a decade. Koo and Kleen spoke to at least seven people who described paying entry fees for charity fantasy leagues Miller ran as commissioner, sometimes with buy-ins as high as $500, only to find him unreachable when it came time to collect winnings or confirm where the charitable portion of the money had gone.” – the publication wrote.
After the story was published, more than 40 additional individuals reportedly contacted them with comparable allegations.
Some participants claimed they paid entry fees of up to $500 for leagues that were advertised as supporting charitable causes. Several alleged they only received payments after the complaints gained traction online and ESPN employees were reportedly copied on emails.
The Missouri Attorney General’s Office confirmed the investigation in a statement.
“The Missouri Attorney General’s Office encourages consumers who believe they have been misled to contact us,” the office said to USA Today Sports. “Attorney General Hanaway takes consumer protection very seriously, and we will work diligently to uncover the facts.”
At this stage, the investigation remains ongoing, and no charges or findings have been announced.
Investigation Follows Weeks After GoFundMe Campaign
A GoFundMe campaign was launched by Miller’s family seeking financial help for his recovery and it received donations from prominent figures across the football world, including Pat McAfee, Adam Schefter and Mina Kimes.
While support poured in for Miller’s medical condition, the attention also went to a Reddit thread in which fantasy football participants questioned unpaid winnings.
“Anyone in a league run by ESPN’s Matt Miller and not get paid as a winner? He has ghosted ours since the championship and provided 0 communication on what funds went to charity/providing payouts to the winners. I’ve seen a few others in the same boat and wanted to see if this is a wider spread problem than a couple leagues.” – the post wrote.
According to Awful Announcing, Miller was listed as commissioner for 91 fantasy football leagues during the 2025 season on the Sleeper platform. The publication also reported allegations involving paid scouting lessons that some users claimed were never fulfilled.
For now, the investigation remains in its early stages. The Attorney General’s Office has stated only that it is gathering information to determine whether any consumer protection laws may have been violated. As of publication, the allegations remain unproven, and no legal conclusions have been reached.
