Could the Kansas City Chiefs Trade for A.J. Brown? Latest Trade Rumors Explored

After failing to make the postseason last time out, Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs could use another weapon on offense, someone like wide receiver A.J. Brown. With the offseason heating up, trade speculations have been rampant for the Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver.

Brown’s future with the Eagles looks dead in the water at the moment. According to several reports, the Eagles will trade the receiver post-June 1 cap flexibility. Amid this, multiple suitors have emerged, including the Chiefs, New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.

Could the Kansas City Chiefs Trade for A.J. Brown?

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, the Chiefs can reportedly trade for A.J. Brown this offseason when the shackles come off this June.

In the wake of Rashee Rice’s continous off-field controversies, Breer raised the possibility of this trade.

“And of course, the smaller picture questions of what do the Chiefs do at receiver now?” Breer said on Wednesday. “Do they go back, do they circle back and maybe look at the idea of trading for A.J. Brown? I don’t think that happens. They had that opportunity, they were on A.J. Brown’s list, they said no to the Eagles in the first place. But I think if you’re the Chiefs, you have to look at all of these things going forward because Rashee Rice clearly looks like somebody that you have not been able to rely on.”

The Chiefs make sense for several reasons.

Over the last few seasons, Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been able to draw a good chemistry with any of the wideouts for a variety of reasons. Maybe with an established receiver like Brown, he can find a good connection there.

With AFC rivals loading up on offense and defense, the Chiefs will need to trade for an offensive weapon like Brown to draw even in the competition and save their dynasty from extinction.

However, there are a few obstacles that may not entice Kansas City enough to chase Brown. Since the Eagles receiver is not a rental-level player, any trade will require at least a first-round pick (and potentially more), plus a contract extension commitment.

Moreover, the Eagles are under no pressure to move Brown unless the receiver forces the issue.

Meanwhile, there is also a catch that makes the trade possible.

The Chiefs’ top receiver Rashee Rice is serving a 30-day sentence for violating parole terms in Texas after positive THC testing. As a result, the Chiefs will miss Rice in OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Then there is his procedure on his knee, expected to sideline him for about two months.

Rice has been controversial. He was involved in a dispute earlier this year, charged with assaulting a photographer. He even began the first half of the 2025 season with a suspension.

It remains to be seen if the Chiefs make the daring decision and trade for Brown.
