Seattle Seahawks top wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is gearing up for Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots this Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. He’s got his lady luck supporting him from The Shoe, 2,500 miles away.
Smith-Njigba’s mother, Jami Smith, revealed the lucky charm she has in her pocket while watching the Super Bowl contest this Sunday. In a video posted online, Jami revealed the little Buckeye she has been holding on to since Jaxon’s college days and that it means lucky charm for the fellow wide receiver.
Jami Smith and his father, Maada Njigba, raised Jaxon and his older brother, Canaan, in Rockwall, Texas. She has been a constant source of support for the wide receiver. She has been a frequent attendee at the Seahawks games. The “Mama Bear” has acted as shield when it comes to defending his son against the critics.
“I can be super petty with all of it,” Jami said in April 2023. “I’m defensive. I’m Mama Bearish. I’m making a list of people who will never have an interview for [Jaxon’s] entire career. I take it very personally. As any parent would, regardless of what your kid is doing.”
Smith-Njigba and the rest of the Seahawks will encourage any love, support and luck coming their way as they aim to make good on their Super Bowl appearance. They were the best seed in the NFC and are looking to take down the Patriots, who will lead by quarterback Drake Maye and head coach Mike Vrabel.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba On Mother Jami’s Influence
In a recent media appearance, Jaxon Smith-Njigba expressed his gratitude towards his mother Jami. He said she’s the kind of person the wide receiver would love to have in his corner and he is super grateful about it.
“My No 1 person,” Smith-Njigba told the Daily Mail. “She’s ultra-competitive. If I need to be told something, then she’ll tell me straight up. I love her, I know she’ll do anything for me and likewise. It is great to have a mother lion like that in your corner.”
Smith-Njigba also acknowledged the contribution of his father, Maada, a former linebacker at Stephen F. Austin University before becoming a firefighter, and his brother in his development in the sport.
“My dad sacrificed his time at his job so I could visit schools or just travel and play some ball,” Smith-Njigba said. “My dad and brother saw the potential at a very young age and pushed me to my limits, got me up at a very young age and I give credit to that. I was talking to my brother today, saying I envisioned this for a very long time before pausing. ‘To get from where I was to here, it really is a blessing.”
It remains to be seen if Seattle gets the luck of Smith-Njigba’s mother in the upcoming Super Bowl game.
