A former player from the Philadelphia Eagles franchise pinpointed a couple of individuals who he felt were some of the most significant factors towards the team’s recent loss. On Sunday, Jan. 11, coach Nick Sirianni’s 2025-26 Eagles team were up against coach Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers in the former’s home pitch, the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for their NFC Wild Card Playoffs matchup this year.
In a video then posted by @ESPNNFL on X/Twitter on Monday, Jan. 12, former Eagles center Jason Kelce were among the panellists present in the post-game broadcast of the Philadelphia-San Francisco game. During the aforementioned broadcast, Kelce then gave his overall thoughts towards his former team’s defeat, wherein he went on to mention offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and the players of the Eagles as a whole.
“I know that everybody is out on Kevin Patullo. I happen to know the guy. I love Kevin Patullo. I know he is a great coach. I know it wasn’t the best performance this year offensively. They had the number one highest paid offense in the league, and we’re mediocre across the board. That’s unacceptable. They had their chances to win that game yesterday. And they, the players, didn’t make the plays, alright? That’s all I’m going to leave it at,” Kelce said.
As it stands, the Philadelphia-based franchise will no longer have the chance to repeat as Super Bowl champions as their four-point loss, 23-19, to the 49ers officially eliminates them from this NFL season’s playoffs. For Kelce, he is seemingly reeling in his former squad’s loss as he spent all 13 years of his NFL career with Philadelphia after his collegiate tenure with the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Jason Kelce Also Praised The Gameplan Execution Of The San Francisco 49ers
Along with putting the blame on Kevin Patullo and the overall playing roster of the 2025-26 Philadelphia Eagles, Jason Kelce also commended the game plan set by San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. For Kelce, the defense shown by the 49ers was among the key factors as to why the Eagles struggled late in the do-or-die matchup.
“What Robert Saleh did, that defense, is commendable. What they’ve done to get to here is absolutely a testament to that organization and how well they’re built, and they function across the board. Kyle Shanahan with the trick oration, finding a way to get things open and everything like that. You tip your cap to ’em. But Philly had their opportunities,” Kelce shared.
