Travis Kelce has been with the Kansas City Chiefs his whole career after being drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. The Chiefs star is widely considered one of the best tight ends in the history of the game, alongside Rob Gronkowski.
After winning three Super Bowls with the Chiefs, Kelce’s production has dropped off over the last couple of seasons and many expect him to announce his retirement after the 2025 NFL season. Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s comments ahead of the Christmas Day game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium have added fuel to that narrative.
Reid said he doesn’t know if it’s Kelce’s last home game, but called him a “phenomenal person.”
“I think his numbers and personality and the person, you know, I think speak for themselves. Phenomenal person, has been great for the community. He’s everything you want from a player represented in an organization.”
Fans were quick to react to Reid’s comments, speculating that Kelce is indeed walking away from the sport.
“Wow the Eagles retired two Kelces,” one fan commented, referring to Travis’ brother Jason, who retired after the 2024 season, and poking fun at the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
“Kelce has been a dividend aristocrat for a decade, but every bond eventually reaches its maturity date. Reid is just preparing the shareholders for the inevitable write-down. The ROI was legendary, but holding a depreciating asset for sentimental reasons is how you go broke. Cash out the equity,” another fan wrote.
“If this is the end in Kansas City, what a career. Travis Kelce defined an era for the Chiefs. Hall-of-Fame talent, Hall-of-Fame impact. KC won’t be the same without him,” another fan said.
“Thank god, I’m sick of hearing that name every ten seconds, almost as bad as the media cowgirls coverage,” another fan said.
Jason Kelce Weighs In on Travis Kelce’s Potential Rumors
As Travis Kelce nears the end of his football career, with a wedding planned in the near future with Taylor Swift, his brother, Jason Kelce, weighed in on how the Chiefs TE should be making his decision.
The ex-Eagles star said that Travis has to step away from the game for a bit to make his decision on whether to come back.
Jason said his brother should enjoy the games left in the season, irrespective of his retirement decision.
“There are so many emotions with this game right after a season, especially with the way this one’s been. … And right now, it’s just too fresh. You gotta step away from it, you gotta think about it, and then it’ll come to you,” Jason said.
The Chiefs will end their season with games against the Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.
