Jaelan Phillips was the 1st round, 18th overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2021 NFL Draft. Considered the top high-school football prospect from the class of 2017, Phillips had a four-year run in college football.
Coming out of high school, he had over 20 scholarship offers and committed to the UCLA Bruins in 2017. He moved to Miami in 2019 and finished his collegiate career there before being drafted by Miami in the NFL.
Currently in the sixth year of his NFL career, Phillips has established himself as a star linebacker in the league. He has played for two NFL franchises so far and is reportedly switching teams once again in the current offseason.
Outside of football, Phillips enjoys a peaceful life with his fiancée. He got engaged to Samantha in August 2025 and posted several pictures from the day he proposed to her.
“Sam, I thank God every day that you came back into my life. You were the first person I fell in love with and the last person I will ever love. I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together,” Phillips captioned the post.
Samantha is a graduate with a master’s degree in physical therapy. She relocated to Philadelphia after Phillips was traded by the Miami Dolphins in November 2025. Samantha often posts life updates on her social media.
Phillips and Samantha are expecting their first child together. As per Samantha’s Instagram posts, they’re expecting a boy, and they’ve already finalized the name Shiloh for their kid. They’re set to welcome their first child in the coming months.
Jaelan Phillips Was Expected to Re-Sign with the Philadelphia Eagles
Earlier this week, reports emerged about Phillips and his future in Philadelphia. As per Ian Rapoport, there was “growing optimism” about Phillips re-signing with the Eagles and continuing his career in Philly.
Rapoport stated that all the parties involved had made significant progress in concluding that situation.
“Two sacks with the Eagles, but a ton of pressures really, really ignited that defense, a priority free agent for the Philadelphia Eagles. And our understanding is there has been made significant progress made between the Eagles and Jaelan Phillips toward him returning to Philly,” he said.
“There’s been no decision, to my knowledge, and there is nothing final, but certainly there is some optimism that there’s going to be a deal, that he will remain a member of Vic Fangio’s defense.”
Earlier today, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Phillips has agreed to a 4-year, $120 million deal with the Carolina Panthers with $80M in guarantees.
