Is Anthony Richardson Leaving the Colts? Latest on Indianapolis QB’s Future With Franchise

Will Anthony Richardson join a new team this offseason? There’s a chance the Indianapolis Colts former first-round pick could be moved this offseason. With Richardson being benched last season, he and his reps initiated the trade request, which was granted by the team this morning.

The Colts selected Richardson with the fourth-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft coming out of Florida. Richardson didn’t have the most impressive or productive collegiate career, but many were fascinated by his potential and skill set.

Richardson has appeared in 17 games with 15 starts in his three seasons in the NFL. He’s completed just 50.6 percent of his passes for 2,400 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He’s rushed for 634 yards and 10 touchdowns.

As of right now, there haven’t been any known suitors interested in trading for Richardson, but with how weak this QB draft class and free agency class is, teams could start to contact the Colts about a potential trade.

Daniel Jones Seems To Be The QB Of The Future in Indianapolis

After the Indianapolis Colts announced that they’d have an open competition last offseason, they signed free agent quarterback Daniel Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract.

In his seventh season in the league, he went 8-5 as the Colts’ starter, and was an early MVP candidate. However, a torn Achilles against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 7, 2025 derailed him from leading the Colts to the playoffs, as the Colts would not win another game for the rest of the season.

This leaves the Colts in a tricky situation. Do they extend Jones to a long-term deal after he showed promised in 13 games, or do they franchise tag him for the year to see if he comes back from his injury?

The franchise tag would cost the Colts $47.3 million against the cap this season, and a long-term deal seems more ideal. With the team giving Richardson permission to seek a trade, it seems like they have a plan in place for Jones.
