Charvarius Ward Injury: Colts CB Reveals Major Update After Multiple Concussions

For a football player, concussions are a serious matter, as continuously getting concussed would affect them later in life. This may be true for Charvarius Ward, who has had a laundry list of concussions, and he had been considering retirement as these concussions continue to affect his body even long after getting hit.

Indianapolis Colts insider Stephen Holder has reported that the cornerback is now “seriously considering” retirement after suffering a series of concussions. Defensive positions, including cornerbacks, are often hit hard by offensive protectors, so concussions are inevitable.

“Regarding CB Charvarius Ward, who revealed last month he was strongly considering retirement after a series of concussions, I heard from him recently and he was legitimately reconsidering that stance. Have not heard a final decision but that remains fluid.”

This is not yet final, as he still has some time to reconsider, but the concussions have haunted him last season, causing him to miss multiple games and even had to go to the injured reserve twice. He had a total of three concussions during his first season with the Colts, with his second concussion arguably being the worst as he ran into tight end Drew Ogltree before a game.

He joined Indianapolis last season as a free agent and had been a very good disruptor, only allowing a completion rate of 57% on 37 targets with seven pass breakups.

Charvarius Ward Still Has 2 Years Left in His Contract With the Indianapolis Colts

While Charvarius Ward has been considering retirement for quite some time now, the Colts’ cornerback still has some time left in his contract with the team, and that may be the reason why he has not declared retirement yet.

His contract is worth $54,000,000 with a $20,000,000 signing bonus. It is set to run out in 2027, and for next season, he is supposed to earn around $18,000,000. Should he retire, he will not be getting that money, but this will allow the Colts to free up some funds and look for a new replacement.
