The Philadelphia Eagles could reportedly move on from AJ Brown this offseason and the New England Patriots is emerging as a potential destination. After the Patriots’ Super Bowl disappointment, it’s getting clear that they need help in the receiving corps besides Stefon Diggs.
Patriots insider Mark Daniels reveals how the franchise is trying to pair Brown, who is on a three-year, $96 million contract, with Diggs this offseason.
“According to our sources, there’s a scenario where the Patriots could have both receivers on the roster. In the event Diggs is willing to restructure his contract, the team sees an avenue to pair him with Brown,” Daniels wrote.
Previously, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel discussed his long-standing relationship with Brown and said they are evaluating options. The two spent the first three years of Brown in the NFL together on the Tennessee Titans.
“I’ve watched him grow. I’ve watched him mature. I’m proud of him, proud of the father that he is. I’m proud of the husband,” Vrabel said. “That has nothing to do with where he plays or where he played. Those are the things that are important.
“We reach out and text each other during the good things that happen to each other. Sometimes things don’t go so well for the people that you’re close with, and you text for those as well. It’s a two-way street of support and reminders of what got us to where we are here today.”
Former Patriots great Ty Law has also vouched for bringing Brown in.
Patriots’ Trade For AJ Brown Less Likely After Eagles GM’s Latest Admission
At the NFL Combine this week, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman answered questions about whether the franchise was fielding offers for AJ Brown. Roseman first acknowledged the importance of Brown on the Eagles roster, given the massive success they have seen in the last four years with him.
However, he also doesn’t deny not hearing calls of potential trade involving Brown because that’s his job. But it appears less likely that Brown gets traded.
“At the same time, there’s nobody — our job as GMs, we gotta listen on anyone, and that doesn’t have anything to do with A.J,” Roseman said. “If anyone calls me and says, ‘Hey, I want to talk about a player,’ for me to say unequivocally, ‘I’m not taking your call,‘ that doesn’t make sense because I don’t know what they’re going to say on the other end. Now, the chances that I’m doing that [trading] with a great player, they’re not very high.“
It remains to be seen if the Patriots manage to strike a deal with the Eagles for Brown.
