The scandal involving Dianna Russini and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has led to several discoveries in the former NFL insider’s past. One such reveal was Russini using league head coaches’ names to get out of traffic tickets.
According to recently released bodycam footage, Russini was pulled over for a traffic stop on Jan. 19 January, 2026, in New Jersey. The 43-year-old seemed to namedrop Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell while conversing with the officer.
Russini was pulled over after being spotted using her phone while driving. The former insider claimed that she was using her phone to break the news of Sean McDermott getting fired by the Buffalo Bills.
Russini then asked the police officer their favorite NFL team, to which they responded, ‘the Vikings.’ Russini then seemingly started searching for a text chain with O’Connell to show the officer.
While the Ridgewood Police Department blurred the exact texts for privacy reasons, the conversation ended with Russini saying: “His quarterback sucks though,” which would presumably be a shot at former Michigan signal caller JJ McCarthy, as the Vikings had not signed Kyler Murray at the time.
“I understand your job requires you to be on the phone a lot,” the officer said. “Just try to wait until you get home, okay? Keep me up to date on the Vikings, okay? Let me know if (O’Connell) gets a new quarterback, alright?” The officer responded before letting Russini drive off.
Russini Bragged About The Incident On Air Before The Scandal Was Revealed
While the name of the head coach she had name-dropped was not revealed at first, Russini bragged about this incident on the ‘Stugotz and Company’ podcast back in February.
While the complete account of events does not match the story that was initially told, Russini did speak on asking the officer their favorite team before proposing to FaceTime the head coach.
On the podcast, Russini had said: “Do you want to talk to the coach? You should talk to the coach,” before FaceTiming the NFL coach.
Russini also claimed that the FaceTime call did happen and the concerned head coach convinced the officer to let her off the hook for texting while driving.
The former NFL insider has since resigned from her post at The Athletic and is currently off social media. However, several reports have shed light on how Russini allegedly used her connections for personal benefit.
