Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy are fighting it out for the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback position in this offseason and some ESPN analysts have already made their pick.
In Wednesday’s edition of “Get Up”, analyst Bart Scott spoke about the quarterback competition in the NFC North division and said that the Vikings as a team is going to surprise a lot of people, mostly because of Kyler Murray’s addition.

Scott expressed concern over the Bears’ sustainability in 2026 and added that Murray can potentially be labeled the most talented quarterback by the end of the season and also highlighted how his team can support him in that.
The ESPN analyst further said that the sky is the limit for Murray for the upcoming season.
“If Caleb Williams, Jared Goff, Jordan Love, Tyson Bagent, Tyrod Taylor and JJ McCarthy all go down with season ending injuries in August then yes, Kyler Murray will be the best QB in the NFC North.” one fan reacted.

Analyst Explains How Kyler Murray Has Already Won the QB Battle Over J.J. McCarthy
In a clip posted on Tuesday, analyst John Middlekauff claims that there is no quarterback battle left at Minnesota as Kyler Murray has already secured his position for the 2026 season.
Middlekauff spoke about Murray being the lead dog in the quarterback battle and said that it’s his job to lose now.
The analyst further shared that he believes if they are both healthy, McCarthy wouldn’t beat Murray, just like he wouldn’t beat a lot of the guys.
”There’d be a lot of teams, based on what we have seen, J.J. McCarthy wouldn’t beat out the backup quarterback.” Middlekauff claimed.
Middlekauf further said that his only question is whether McCarthy would be on the roster at all in week 1.
