When the Los Angeles Rams picked Ty Simpson as the No.13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, many fans and analysts questioned the franchise’s decision.
Most individuals argued that the Rams should’ve drafted someone who would help the team get closer to their Super Bowl dream this year, since Matthew Stafford was widely expected to return for another season.
While the Athletic’s Nate Atkins shared that neither Stetson Bennett nor Ty Simpson showed any exceptional performances during the OTAs so far, analyst Jason La Canfora said the 29 Y/O quarterback has an edge over the former Alabama star.
Matthew Stafford Shares Thoughts on Ty Simpson
Matthew Stafford spoke to Chris Long on his podcast, “Green Light,” on 23rd June 2026. Among many topics was Ty Simpson’s, during which the reigning MVP shared his thoughts on the young quarterback.
Talking about how Stafford would want Simpson to talk about his down the line, the 43-year-old star said:
“Hopefully, he comes away with a guy who treated him the right way, showed him what it was about, what it’s like to be a true professional, and also be yourself,” Stafford said.
Stafford added that he is not a robot out there and highlighted that whenever he is mic’d up, you can see him running around like crazy, doing all sorts of stuff, and having fun with the game because it’s a kid’s game.
Stafford also shared that he is there for Simpson and he is going to focus on doing his job, which is helping the team and himself play as well as possible.
“If he [Simpson] gathers information around that and learns from that along the way, I am fired up for our team because that’s gonna make us better,” Stafford said.
Simpson has spent just one year as a starter during his time at Alabama.
