The NFL has officially announced that the 2027 draft will be held in Washington D.C. next year, and it seems like Magic Johnson is quite happy about the decision, praising NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the move.
The legendary NBA figure took to social media platform, X, to speak out about the move, and thanked Goodell to allow the area to host the big event.
The dates for the NFL draft have been chosen as April 29, 30, and May 1 as top players from college football receive an opportunity of a lifetime as teams try and get them in to bolster their own squads.
Why is Magic Johnson Excited About the NFL Draft Being Held in Washington?
Johnson’s prime years in the NBA were spent playing at the Los Angeles Lakers, but his association in recent years with the NFL comes because of Washington.
The 66-year-old became a minority owner in the Washington Commanders in July 2023, with billionaire Josh Harris leading the way as owner, and hence the involvement of Washington as host of the NFL draft holds special importance to Magic Johnson.
Hosting the NFL draft showcases the ability of Washington to be a major player in key sporting events and allows owners such as Magic Johnson to showcase the work being done behind the scenes to put things together even if the Commanders directly won’t be involved.
