“Maybe Should’ve Kept His Mouth Shut”: Fans React As Diego Pavia Becomes First Heisman To Go Undrafted

Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia just suffered a major setback in his career, with several onlookers reacting to it viciously, given his reputation.

Pavia went undrafted in this year’s NFL Draft despite his respectable college football tenure. All three rounds of the draft concluded after a three-day selection period that saw 257 players get picked.

The setback comes after Pavia just wrapped his collegiate football stint in the recently concluded 2025 season, his second year with coach Clark Lea‘s Vanderbilt program. In his first two campaigns, Pavia played for coach Jerry Kill’s New Mexico State Aggies. But after he transferred to the Commodores for his third year, he led the squad to a couple of successful seasons.

Fans online feel Pavia should’ve kept quiet when he was playing college football since he was notorious for trash talk and call-outs, especially during the 2025 season.

“Maybe should’ve kept his mouth shut a little more. Probably his mom’s too lol,” one user wrote.

“Maybe don’t diss Heisman voters? Character plays a role in these teams’ decisions, especially at QB,” another fan pointed out.

“Lmaooo bro was really out here yelling, ‘F*CK the Heisman voters,’ pre-draft and the NFL GMs heard that sh*t loud and clear. First undrafted Heisman finalist since 2014…He did that to himself for real. F*ck around and find out,” another user explained.

“If he just shut his mouth, he probably would have been a 3-4 round pick,” a user claimed.

Other X users dropped their criticism of Pavia’s game and skill set.

“Is anyone surprised? Nobody wants a toxin in the locker room,” one fan said.

“I’ll say it, this is the classic Sanders situation. Trashed your own identity. Owners don’t care about feeling you must give respect to earn respect in this league. He’ll get picked up practice squad then who knows,” another fan shared.

“I mean he’s not very good to be an NFL QB. Let’s not act like this is a surprising,” a user posted.

Pavia becomes the first Heisman Trophy finalist to go undrafted in the NFL Draft since former Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch in 2014. The Albuquerque, New Mexico, native finished as the runner-up in the said individual season award, as Indiana Hoosiers star and the eventual first pick in this year’s draft, Fernando Mendoza, won it.

The 2025 Vanderbilt Commodores Only Had Three Losses

Perhaps what may surprise Diego Pavia and the Vanderbilt Commodores faithful regarding the player going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft is the fact that his 2025 season only had three losses.

With Pavia as the starting quarterback, the 2025 Commodores finished with an overall record of 10-3 (6-2 SEC), but did lose to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Reliaquest Bowl, 34-27, for their postseason matchup.
