Former Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez ended up going to the Miami Dolphins with the 43rd overall pick on Friday. He was the third player to be drafted by the team after they used their first-round picks on offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor (No. 12) and running back Chris Johnson (No. 27).
As the Dolphins welcome Rodriguez to the team, they will also be interested in knowing about his personal life, especially about his wife, Emma.
According to an exclusive article by The People, Jacob Rodriguez has been with his wife Emma since their high school days. They got engaged in 2023 and tied the knot the same night.
While the linebacker prepares for his professional career in the NFL, Emma Rodriguez serves the nation as an Army Black Hawk pilot who is getting ready for deployment.
While speaking with The People, Jacob discussed what he and his wife do to keep the spark in their romance alive.
“You’re growing and learning every day. … It’s very important that you learn how to communicate,” Rodriguez said.
The linebacker also expressed his support for his wife’s profession as a Black Hawk pilot.
“All military service members, everybody in that line of work who volunteered to potentially put their lives on the line, to protect the country, it’s truly unbelievable,” Rodriguez said. “It really puts me in a great headspace knowing that she’s out there doing what she loves.”
Rodriguez played his freshman collegiate campaign with Virginia before transferring to Texas Tech in 2022. In five seasons, he recorded 317 tackles, 6.0 sacks, six interceptions, and 25.5 tackles for loss.
Dolphins assistant GM excited about drafting Jacob Rodriguez
After selecting Rodriguez on Day 2, Dolphins assistant GM Kyle Smith did not shy away from expressing his excitement with this pick.
“We’re buzzing in there in the room,” Smith said, as per the Orlando Sentinel. “Jacob’s a guy we’ve covered for a long time. … Jacob’s one of those guys, that’s a flag-bearer, captain, going to walk in Day 1 and be that type of guy. He takes the ball away, run game, pass game, three-down player. Go down the list of every attribute you want in an inside ‘backer.’
GM Jon-Eric Sullivan also shared the same sentiment, stating how Rodriguez’s tape “speaks for itself.”
