Mike Vrabel was fired by the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 9, 2024. A day later, Dianna Russini shared a simple reason on “The Dan Le Batard Show” on what could have gone wrong.
“Why did Mike Vrabel get fired? Bad communication. Why do relationships fall apart? Bad communication,” she said.
According to Russini, the Titans and Vrabel started with the same goals, but things changed over time. There were misunderstandings, hurt feelings and ego clashes.
“The Titans may have simply been worn out by Mike Vrabel,” Russini added.
Vrabel’s six-season run in Tennessee was the most successful era for the franchise since its early 2000s heydays. During the 2019 AFC Championship run, the team famously upset the defending champions Patriots and the top-seeded Ravens to reach the conference title game.
Next, Vrabel earned the 2021 NFL Coach of the Year award after leading the Titans to the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a 12-5 record.
Despite his success, the end came abruptly following back-to-back losing seasons (7-10 in 2022 and 6-11 in 2023).
Mike Vrabel worked with the Cleveland Browns in 2024. He then joined the New England Patriots in January 2025, replacing Jerod Mayo.
Vrabel’s first year back in Foxborough was nothing short of historic. He took a Patriots team that had finished 4-13 in 2024 and led them to a 14-3 record. He also led the team to an appearance in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks.
Dianna Russini Once Questioned Mike Vrabel About Patriots HC’s Wife Jennifer’s Athletic Abilities
In an interview with Mike Vrabel on Aug. 17, 2025, Dianna Russini questioned him about his wife, Jennifer.
Russini remarked, “YOUR WIFE IS A SUPERB ATHLETE.” (14:05)
“I would say, Jennifer used to be a superb athlete,” Vrabel retorted.
“Maybe ‘used to be,’ but she still has it in her the way you do,” Russini retorted.
“Which sport do you think Jen could beat you at now?” she then asked Vrabel.
“PING-PONG,” Vrabel said.
Russini said, “HAVE YOU EVER DONE IT WITH HER?”
“I get too aggressive. I can’t, you know, I mean, after two volleys, I just try to kill it,” Vrabel remarked.
Mike Vrabel has been married to his wife, Jennifer “Jen” Vrabel, since 1999. They met as student-athletes at Ohio State University, where Mike played football and Jen played volleyball. Together, they have two sons, Tyler and Carter.
