Messages of support and enthusiasm poured in for Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia after he received a setback in his football career.
Pavia did not hear his name called by any NFL franchise over three days, leaving him without a team at the end of the draft.
Deion Sanders Jr., the son of NFL legend and Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders, showed support for Pavia on X.
“Make them regret it @diegopavia02,” Sanders Jr. Wrote.
Pavia began his college career with the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos before spending two seasons with the New Mexico State Aggies. He then transferred to Vanderbilt, where he established himself as one of the finest quarterbacks in college football. He finished behind only Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza in Heisman voting and was also a finalist for the Manning award.
Diego Pavia Is The First Heisman Trophy Finalist In 12 Years To Go Undrafted
To add insult to injury, Diego Pavia ended up being the first ever Heisman Trophy finalist to not be drafted into the NFL in over a decade, 12 years to be exact.
Former Northern Illinois Huskies quarterback Jordan Lynch was the last Heisman finalist to go undrafted. He finished third in voting in 2013 after registering the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season.
The Heisman Trophy is the highest annual individual distinction given to the best player in a college football campaign.
