Former Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee is facing a first-degree murder charge over the death of his then-girlfriend, Gabriella Carvalho Perpétuo. Lee also faces charges of tampering with evidence and was denied bail in Hamilton Court on Wednesday.

All We Know About Darron Lee’s Mother, Candice
Darron Lee’s mother, Candice, reportedly pursued her bachelor’s at the University of Maryland Global Campus, along with a minor in Journalism/History and Public Relations, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree from Franklin University.
Candice worked as a print broadcast journalist and public relations and marketing specialist from 1990 to 1997. She then worked as a lead female anchor at News 12 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for 10 years.
In 2007, Candice joined WCMH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbus, Ohio, and worked there for nine years. She also won the 2012 Broadcast Media Award from the Ohio Pharmacy Association.
In July 2016, Candice left her job as a reporter to become Darron’s manager, a few months after he got picked by the New York Jets in the first round of the NFL Draft. At the time, Candice said she wanted to attend her son’s games, and working as a reporter on weekends would not allow her to do so.
“I want to be there for many of his games, and working weekends would not be conducive to traveling to see him play,” Candice told the Columbus Dispatch in 2016. “Plus, it was time. I have been in the business for 19 years.”
Darron signed a four-year rookie contract for $10.2 million when he was drafted by the Jets. He was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in March 2019 and won the Super Bowl with them in his lone season.
In November 2020, Darron signed with the Buffalo Bills. He was also part of the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad ahead of the 2021 season.
Candice worked as her son’s manager for as long as he was in the NFL.
In April 2023, Darron was arrested for allegedly beating Candice, and Lindsey McGlone, the mother of his two-year-old son.
