Last season, the Indianapolis Colts became a title contender, but when their quarterback room was plagued with season-ending injuries, including Daniel Jones, they collapsed and missed the playoffs. With the new season approaching and training camp about to begin, however, there is some renewed hope.
Daniel Jones, who has been rehabilitating his torn Achilles, spoke with The Athletic’s James Boyd ahead of the Colts’ training camp and he has some positive news, revealing that he has already been cleared.
“I’m doing everything. Cleared to do everything. I think it’s just about, at this point, sharpening that,” he said. “Getting more explosive, getting stronger, kind of improving what you can do. But I can do everything and feel really good doing it… You’re still thinking about [the Achilles]. I think [you] probably will until you get playing.”
His rehabilitation is not yet over, but the Colts are optimistic of his return around the time that training camp begins. However, participating or being cleared for training camp does not mean Daniel Jones is healthy enough to play a regular season game, but Indianapolis is hoping he could be back by Week 1 as they take on the Baltimore Ravens for their season opener.
Jones was red-hot last season as the Colts looked like they were heading to the playoffs. When the injuries hit, however, the team struggled with loss after loss, eventually leading to them missing the postseason entirely.
Daniel Jones Fresh From Hosting a Kids’ Football Camp
It is already summer, and that means that NFL players are still very much on vacation, even with training camp drawing ever closer. However, Daniel Jones found some time to host a children’s football camp at Bishop Dwenger on Thursday as part of his FlexWork Sports kids camp in Fort Wayne. This was also where he spoke with James Boyd and provided his injury update.
Working out with kids is not as strenuous as training with fellow NFL stars, and Jones has been slowly trying to get back in shape, as he explained in the interview with Boyd. He did work out in a limited capacity during the offseason workouts and mandatory mini camp.
