Cam Skattebo only played eight games in his rookie year for the New York Giants. Despite that, he showed glimpses of how exciting he can be as a running back because of his talent, energy and charisma.
During a Week 8 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, Skattebo endured a devastating ankle injury, suffering a season-ending dislocation.
In the offseason, fans have noticed that Cam Skattebo’s energetic on-field attitude turns into reckless behavior off the court. In November, only a month after the injury, he made a WWE appearance where he was seen pushing and shoving professional wrestlers.
At an appearance at Fanatics Fest on Saturday, he pulled up his pants to show the injured ankle to the crowd before attempting a backflip. He stumbled backward and fell during the landing, which led to severe criticism from fans online.
Empire Sports Media’s Anthony Rivardo posted a video of Skattebo addressing his backflip attempt on X.
“I’m gonna address the elephant: I will not hurt myself before the season,” he said. “I don’t know if you guys know WWE or not, those floors are bouncy. So, when I took off, I was midair. Like, ‘Holy cow, I’m not gonna land this. I’m way too high.’ (I) landed, but it had too much cushion. It wasn’t a stiff, firm ground.”
Skattebo assured fans that even though he failed the landing, he walked away without any injuries and that he was “perfectly fine.” His teammate Jaxson Dart was also on the stage, and in his opinion, that’s the most explosive Skattebo has been. He had so much energy that he “over-rotated.”
While Dart liked Skattebo’s backflip attempt, it’ll be interesting to hear what coach John Harbaugh has to say about it.
Skip Bayless Wants the Giants to Fine Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo received a lot of criticism from fans because they thought he was being reckless and wasn’t thinking about the Giants’ upcoming season. They have brought in a new coach and have a talented roster. So, this could be their season to get back on track.
Even though fans were furious, they didn’t demand any punishment from the Giants. Skip Bayless, on the other hand, expressed his frustration on X over the video.
“If I’m John Harbaugh and the Giants, I fine Skattebo. So season-risking reckless,” he wrote.
As of now, the Giants and Harbaugh haven’t said anything about Cam Skattebo’s backflip.
