‘Willing to Let Its Credibility Suffer’: Podcaster Calls Out AP for Being Mum on Dianna Russini’s Conflict Of Interest In Mike Vrabel COTY Voting

Tony Farmer has been one of the most invested people in the Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel controversy.

The whole scandal began when Russini and Vrabel were spotted at a resort in Sedona, Arizona, in April, followed by the former NFL reporter’s resignation from The Athletic and the Patriots head coach’s decision to miss day three of the NFL draft to seek counseling.

One of the major points that many analysts and podcasters have discussed is the conflict of interest that arises from Vrabel and Russini’s alleged relationship, especially regarding the Patriots’ head coach’s AP Coach of the Year honor in 2025, as the former NFL reporter was one of the voters.

“The Associated Press’ campaign of silence continues. Still no Russini COTY ballot. Still no explanation for why the award ballot process changed from last year. Still no response to my inquiry about the Russini resignation story. And, as of today, Dianna Russini is apparently still an AP NFL Awards voter with a COTY vote, even though there appears to be a conflict of interest with her friendship with Mike Vrabel. If the AP is willing to let its credibility suffer, there must be, imo, a big reason why,” Farmer said about the AP’s silence on the situation.

Analyst Questions How Mike Vrabel’s Off-Field Troubles Could Affect the Patriots

During an appearance on the “NFL On ESPN” show, former NFL veteran Sam Acho expressed concerns about the Patriots, noting how the Vrabel-Russini situation would affect them.

“So I’m excited for the long-term future of this team. The question is going to be for the current, for the present.“ Acho said on Thursday. “How does this New England Patriot team overcome adversity? There’s all the talk about the coach and what happened with him. All of a sudden, will this team come together? Will this team divide apart? I think the weaknesses have been addressed from an on-the-field perspective. My biggest concern is not just the strength of schedule on the outside, but the nucleus on the inside”

While players and assistant coaches haven’t made any public comments about Mike Vrabel, the Russini scandal has certainly put a spotlight on the Patriots for the upcoming season. Coming off a Super Bowl loss in his first year in charge, Vrabel will face the pressure of replicating last season’s record without wide receiver Stefon Diggs to aid Drake Maye.

The Patriots currently hold the 6th-hardest schedule in the league, with a season opener against reigning Super Bowl champions Seattle, along with matchups against the Lions, Chargers, Chiefs, and the Broncos, in addition to their conference rivals, the Buffalo Bills.
