Caleb Williams Reveals Michael Jordan’s Role In Inspiration Behind Madden 27 Cover

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams used the opportunity to feature on the cover of “Madden NFL 27” to pay homage to Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan. Having won six NBA championships between 1991 and 1998, MJ has inspired several athletes, and Williams is one of them.

EA Sports captured Williams’ signature jump-pass from his fourth-down pass in the Bears’ dramatic win over the Green Bay Packers in the 2025 wild-card round. In addition, Williams asked for the Chicago skyline as a tribute to MJ.

The cover is eerily similar to the original 1985 Air Jordan campaign poster, which captured Jordan in his signature Jumpman pose. Like Jordan, even Williams wants to win multiple championships for the city.

“That’s the position I want to be in, but I also wanted to pay respect to MJ,” Williams said at the EA Sports season-opening event at Chicago’s Navy Pier on Thursday. “It was more of a respect thing. Bringing retro back, not letting people forget that and doing it on my side of the world of football. Paying respect to that and him and what he was able to do in Chicago. Just honestly wanted to bring that energy, that vibe back.”

A meeting between the current star and past legend of Chicago is already in the works as both stars are trying to manage their schedule for a meet-up.

Caleb Williams Makes Bears History With Madden NFL Cover

The former first overall pick became the first player from the Bears’ history to feature on the Madden NFL cover. He recognized this achievement as a “stepping stone” to the lofty goals he has set for himself with the Bears.

Via the aforementioned source, Williams stated:

“It’s another thing to tell me to keep going and keep striving for these goals that a lot of people say I won’t be able to do,” Williams said. “A lot of people frown upon me or this and that. All that doesn’t matter; only what matters is the guys in the locker room, coaches and then my family, my support system, supporting me.”

Williams watched the trailer for “Madden NFL 27,” where he is featured alongside actor Vince Vaughn. The Bears quarterback wants to join the likes of Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, the only ones who have had the privilege of earning the Madden NFL cover again.
