49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s ongoing standoff with San Francisco took an unexpected twist on Friday after new information contradicted his latest public claims.
Aiyuk recently revealed in an Instagram video that he no longer has an agent, claiming he formally ended his relationship with longtime representative Ryan Williams months ago. However, the NFL Players Association records continue to tell a different story, as per reporter Noah Furtado of the San Francisco Chronicle.
NFLPA records still list Williams as Brandon Aiyuk’s representative.
In his latest video, Aiyuk insisted that he terminated his Standard Representative Agreement (SRA) through the NFLPA last November.
“Also, I do not have an agent,” Aiyuk said. “I terminated my SRA with my previous agent through the NFLPA last year in November.”
He also claimed that no one would be speaking on his behalf going forward. Aiyuk said:
“There’s nobody who will be speaking for me. I’m not going to no third party or call no old people to get on here and speak for me. You’re going to get it from me live and direct.”
However, as per the NFLPA’s official database, Ryan Williams of Athletes First remains Aiyuk’s certified agent. Reports indicate the union still lists Williams because the paperwork required to officially terminate the agreement has not been submitted.
The standard procedure requires the player, the NFLPA and the agent to complete formal documentation before the representation officially ends. Until that process is finalized, the previous agent remains listed in the records.
More on Brandon Aiyuk’s Ongoing 49ers saga
The relationship between the two reportedly worsened after Aiyuk missed his rehabilitation after suffering a serious knee injury during the 2024 season.
Since then, Aiyuk has used social media to criticize the team while openly showing interest in joining the Washington Commanders.
In a YouTube video, Aiyuk explained why he fired his agent.
“The reason why the agent being fired is such an important detail in this whole story is because that agent is also the agent of the general manager for that one team (John Lynch). And that agent really started this, because I fired him, but he wanted to text my wife like he’s smart. Don’t ever text my wife. You’re fired. Get out of here,” he said.
“So he is also the agent for the general manager of that team. And these people are all weirdos, creepy predators. I don’t care how long I have to wait to get to you my baby (the Washington Commanders), but if it involves (seeing the 49ers) first, I’m waiting.”
He also accused Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan of damaging their relationship beyond repair, saying he has no intention of playing for San Francisco again.
Despite Aiyuk’s online drama, the 49ers have shown no urgency in releasing him. The team would prefer to receive compensation in trade rather than let the former All-Pro walk out for nothing.
