Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his family attended Team USA’s Group D FIFA World Cup match against Turkiye at SoFi Stadium earlier this week. Stafford was accompanied by his wife, Kelly, and their four daughters: twin girls Sawyer and Chandler, and younger girls Hunter and Tyler.
On Tuesday, Kelly shared memories that the family created at the stadium while cheering Team USA. All were dressed in black T-shirts with three of the girls wearing American flag-themed hair bands.
The Instagram post included funny selfies, a group picture, and stadium photos, capturing the excitement at the Rams’ home stadium. Kelly also noted that it was a unique experience for the quarterback to watch a game from the stands at his home field.
“That time we got to go to the World Cup at @sofistadium and not only cheer on USA, but watch Matthew become a fan in the stands at his home field ❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸” she wrote in the caption.
Despite the overwhelming crowd, Team USA went down 3-2 in the close game. For the hosts, Auston Trusty scored in the third minute, and Sebastian Berhalter found the net in the early second half. Meanwhile, Turkiye’s Arda Güler and Barış Yılmaz scored in the first half. In stoppage time, Kaan Ayhan scored the winner for the away team.
The defeat, however, did not eliminate the Americans because they had already secured first place in the group before kickoff.
Matthew Stafford’s Wife Kelly Took Issue With QB’s Name Usage
Matthew Stafford has oftentimes been referred to as “Matt” by news agencies, media, and outlets. However, Kelly made it clear through Instagram that her husband’s name is “Matthew” and any short-form usage will be deemed disrespectful.
“When people don’t know him, they call him Matt,” Kelly wrote on her Stories in May. “What gets me is that he’s been playing in the league now for close to two decades and people who have jobs reporting on it, still call him Matt. I find it highly disrespectful, but honestly kinda goes along with Matthew’s whole career.”
Stafford won the NFL’s regular-season MVP last season. For the 2026 season, the Rams and the quarterback have agreed to a $55 million extension that can reach up to $60 million with incentives.
