Calais Campbell’s Brother Taken Into Custody And Charged
According to authorities, Campbell’s older brother, Ciarre Campbell, had barricaded himself inside the home when officers arrived. He was taken into custody and has since been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife.
The case is being treated as an apparent domestic incident. The authorities have not shared whether there was any motive, and a lot of details remain unknown for now.
“This appears to be a domestic incident between a mother and, so far, what we believe it’s her son,” Lt. Christopher Butler said Tuesday.
In the meantime, the Campbell family released a statement confirming Nateal Campbell’s death.
“We are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch, Mrs. Nateal Campbell. While the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We ask for privacy at this time so that we may honor her and share in our overwhelming grief privately and as a family.” (via Ian Rapoport)
Campbell’s team, the Ravens, also expressed condolences.
“We are incredibly saddened to learn about the passing of Calais Campbell’s mother,” the team said. “We extend our deepest condolences and full support to Calais and his family during this difficult time. We ask that everyone please respect their privacy while they grieve this heartbreaking loss.”
Campbell returned to the Ravens in the offseason for what is likely to be his last NFL season. He has previously played for the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and Atlanta Falcons. His first stint with the Ravens was between 2020 and 2022.
