Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was recently called out by a group of NFL analysts, including Skip Bayless, for his credibility as his team’s star player. On Sunday, March 1, @ArenaGridiron on X/Twitter uploaded a clip from its most recent episode featuring Bayless, former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib, and others, as they discussed Richardson during the offseason.
The video starts with Talib lambasting Richardson’s role, as he was tremendously critical of the former Florida Gators star. Talib opined that the reason why he has suffered significant injuries throughout his short time in the NFL is that Richardson believes he is more of a running back. Talib said Richardson has not jusitified his role as the franchise quarterback.
“ I ain’t never felt like he was the franchise quarterback, Anthony Richardson. You mentioned all the injuries he got. You know why he got all them injuries? Because he think he a damn running back ’cause he always get a thousand yards rushing, don’t he? So you always gonna have a goddamn back injury, a hip injury, a shoulder injury you famously known for. Subbing yourself out the game for being tired, like that’s just not franchise quarterback energy,” Talib said.
Richardson will enter his fourth year in the league come the 2026 NFL season. The young talent is coming off of a fractured orbital bone that he suffered through a freak accident during pre-game warmups that limited him to just two games played in the 2025 campaign. He was drafted by the Indianapolis-based franchise with the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Skip Bayless Agrees With Aqib Talib On Anthony Richardson
In the same video, uploaded by The Arena: Gridiron’s official X/Twitter account, it was renowned analyst Skip Bayless‘ turn, as he talked about what he believes should be the actual vantage point when assessing Anthony Richardson.
Bayless agreed with Aqib Talib, saying that Richardson’s abilities should be looked at through his college football tenure more than his NFL Combine tape.
“This is classic combine versus tape. I think if you just watch the tape carefully at Florida, that you’re trying to bet on tangibles, like measurables that aren’t going to equate into actually playing quarterback at the highest level. And I hope somebody brings him along slowly and gives him another shot. But I just, I never saw a franchise quarterback before he got drafted, so I’m, for once, with the Aqib on this,” Bayless said.
