The Indianapolis Colts have granted quarterback Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade.
The former 2023 first-round pick will be entering his fourth season in the NFL this fall, and failed to become the Colts’ franchise quarterback since being drafted. The belief is that the Colts retain Daniel Jones as its starting quarterback for another season.
With Richardson being up for trade, the Colts should receive some trade interest from some quarterback-needy teams.
The Minnesota Vikings are a team to “keep an eye on,” regarding a potential trade according to NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe.
If Aaron Rodgers decides to retire or inform the Steelers that he won’t return to Pittsburgh, the Steelers could be in play for Richardson.
The Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins each have interesting situations regarding Kyler Murray and Tua Tagovailoa. If both teams move on from their current quarterbacks, maybe they each contact the Colts about Richardson.
One team that doesn’t need a quarterback that could inquire about a trade is the Los Angeles Rams. Matthew Stafford has announced that he will return this season, but he won’t be in Los Angeles for long, and Sean McVay and the team could be planning for its future.
Anthony Richardson 2025 Injury: Why Was Colts’ QB Sidelined Last Year?
After he was sidelined, Anthony Richardson suffered a freak injury, which put him on injured reserve.
On October 13, Richardson suffered an orbital bone fracture during pre-game warmups the day before, using elastic bands to stretch. The bands malfunctioned, and struck Richardson in the eye, requiring surgery.
Prior to last season, Richardson has had some injury history. In his short NFL career, he’s had a concussion, shoulder sprain, hip sprain, lower back sprain, and dislocated finger.
In three seasons, Richardson has started 15 games, and has appeared in 17 total, going 8-7 as a starter. He’s thrown for 2,400 yards completing just 50.6 percent of his passes.
