Travis Hunter was picked as the No. 2 pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2025 NFL Draft after he was hyped as one of the best players in college football.
While the former Colorado star won the Heisman Trophy in his final year, his main USP was the way he was able to play brilliantly on both sides of the ball, both as a CB and as a WR.
Proving many analysts’ point, Hunter had a limited time during his rookie year as he faced a brutal season-ending knee injury.
Playing both ways puts Hunter at a high risk of injuries, which is why many analysts suggested him to pick one side and develop as a player.
Talking about how the Cleveland Browns played a smart hand with the Hunter pick in the 2025 NFL Draft that landed the Jaguars the former Colorado star, analyst John Middlekauff said:
“I don’t think they get enough credit on the trade they made last year. I’m not by any means a Travis Hunter hater, but his value and the reason that Gladstone moved up and picked some No. 2 overall is because we’ve never really seen anything like that.
“Even though most people I think in the NFL would have agreed it’s not really feasible to be full-time starter at both. He’s a high-level prospect, but you’re not getting Calvin Johnson. You’re not getting Deion Sanders. And Andrew Barry made one of the great trades of all time because he traded back three spots and he immediately got one of the top two or three players in the draft.”
Travis Hunter Questions Analyst About Claims Regarding Future in the NFL
NFL insider Ian Rapoport made a huge claim about Travis Hunter and the Jaguars on April 10.
Rapoport reported that Hunter is recovering well from his knee injury and was running well in practices despite not being a full participant.
The insider further claimed that Jaguars expect him to be a full-time cornerback and a part-time receiver going forward.
”We’re gonna get to see the player they (Jaguars) drafted,” Rapoport said.
Hunter took to X to reply to the Rapoport’s claims and asked where he heard this rumor from.
