The midseason trade deadline is just about over, and there is no news on the Milwaukee Bucks and superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. It seems the front office has decided to stay with the same lineup until the offseason, when teams will be more aggressive in pursuing the Greek forward. Now, NBA analyst Jake Fischer has revealed the reason behind their disinterest in trading the forward.
On X, the analyst posted a statement from one of the team’s executives, who revealed the real reason behind not trading Giannis before the deadline:
“They were never serious.”
Giannis, who is out of the rotation due to a calf injury, seemed frustrated with the Bucks squad when he last took the court. He complained about a lack of team chemistry and said that players were playing “selfishly.” As the team decided to keep the forward for this season, he might not be fully comfortable with the team when he returns to the court.
The Bucks are 12th in the Eastern Conference and have had one of the worst seasons since the 2-time NBA MVP joined the team. Meanwhile, several rumors are circulating on social media about the reason behind the Bucks’ failure to trade Giannis, and one of those was reportedly “his ego.”
Why did the Bucks fail to find Giannis Antetokounmpo a new team?
Social media is abuzz with several rumors about the Bucks’ decision to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. A user posted one such claim on Instagram, stating:
“An NBA team reportedly stopped pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo because they felt his ego wouldn’t allow him to be a second option behind their star player.”
Fans quickly got to the comment section to share their opinions on which team it could be. While some guessed it to be the Minnesota Timberwolves, others believed it could be the Golden State Warriors. Moreover, the New York Knicks were also one of the frontrunners to land the Greek Freak in the midseason trade period.
While there is no way of knowing for sure which team it could be or even if the report has any substance, one thing is clear: Giannis will be a Buck for the 2025-26 season. If anything, he wished to stay in Milwaukee when he spoke to the media, and his wish had been granted. Only time will tell how this pans out for him.
