Another news arrives in the NBA on the final day of the midseason trade period: the Minnesota Timberwolves have finally found a solution to their backup guard issues. The team has acquired Ayo Dosunmu and Julian Phillips from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four second-round picks.
ESPN analyst Shams Charania posted the update on social media.
Dosunmu is in the final year of his 3-year, $21 million deal, and if he can pull off the job better than Dillingham, the Wolves might look to re-sign him in the offseason. The guard has had a good season thus far, averaging a career-high 15 points and shooting a massive 45.1% from the 3-point line.
The 6-foot-4 guard, a scorer with good defensive hands, will be expected to fill the shoes of Mike Conley, and the squad might look ready for the playoffs with him in the rotation. On the other hand, the 2024 draft pick, Rob Dillingham’s journey will continue in Chicago.
The Timberwolves updated depth chart
Given Coby White’s trade and the Bulls front office’s other roster decisions lately, the team seems to be looking to build the squad, and Rob Dillingham might get an opportunity to show what he has. The Wolves sacrificed a first-round pick and a pick swap to draft Dillingham in 2024, but the bold move did not bear any fruit for the team in the coming seasons.
The Timbewolves will expect some crucial minutes from Dosunmu when Anthony Edwards won’t be on the floor. Meanwhile, Julian Phillips has not had double-digit playing time this season and can get some space to show his shooting abilities.
Let’s look at the updated depth chart for the Wolves after the recent trade.
| PG | Ayo Dosunmu | |||
| SG | Donte DiVincenzo | Bones Hyland | Jaylen Clark | Johnny Juzang |
| SF | Jaden McDaniels | Julian Phillips | ||
| PF | Julius Randle | Joe Ingles | ||
| C | Rudy Gobert |
The trade period continues to bring exciting updates, before teams look to make a final push to the postseason and contend for the NBA title.
