NBA Fans Infuriated as Victor Wembanyama Potentially Escapes One-Game Suspension After “Dirty” Foul on Jalen Brunson

Victor Wembanyama may have escaped a one-game suspension after he was not whistled for a flagrant foul against Jalen Brunson in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday. The incident occurred in the third quarter when Wembanyama found himself in Brunson’s landing zone on a three-point shot.

Brunson made the shot, but stepped on Wembanyama’s foot and rolled his ankle. The Knicks guard was in tremendous pain as the play carried on to the other end. Mike Brown charged onto the floor, holding his head, while Brunson went at referee Tyler Ford and screamed in his face.

If the foul was called and the series went to Game 6, Wembanyama would have been suspended, as he would have hit the threshold for flagrant foul penalty points. Fans were furious with the officials and accused the league of helping Wembanyama avoid a suspension.

“Shocker Wemby being dirty and getting away with it……,” one fan said.

“No way Wemby being one flagrant away from suspension didn’t impact the call there,” another wrote.

“Wemby not getting the Draymond finals suspension let’s be real,” one fan added.

“Dirtiest player in the league gets away with yet another one,” one fan said.

“Silver didn’t want Wemby suspended for Game 6 even though he deserves it,” another wrote.

“The special treatment is getting absolutely ridiculous, haven’t seen this before to this extent,” one fan added.

Tim Legler sides with Jalen Brunson after refs don’t call foul on Victor Wembanyama

Tim Legler, who was on air for ESPN’s coverage of the NBA Finals, sided with Jalen Brunson, saying there was “no doubt” that Wembanyama should have been hit with a flagrant foul.

“There’s no doubt he takes away his space on a closeout. Should be a Flagrant,” Legler said.

The officiating has been controversial this series, especially involving Brunson and Wembanyama. The Spurs star also escaped punishment after shoving the Knicks captain in the first quarter of Game 3.

It will be interesting to see if the NBA investigates the incident. If the NBA changes its stance, Wembanyama could still be suspended for a potential Game 6 in New York.
