One of the biggest storylines for the Golden State Warriors this offseason is whether they can convince future Hall of Famer LeBron James to join Steph Curry in the Bay Area.
James, who opted out of his contract to explore his options for a record-setting 24th NBA season, proved he can still provide elite production at 41 years old. While rumors about a potential Warriors move have been circulating for some time, Curry recently made it clear that he would welcome the opportunity to play alongside his longtime rival.
Curry spoke glowingly about the possibility of playing alongside James, emphasizing that, perhaps even more than basketball, he is highly interested in hitting the golf course with the four-time NBA champion.
“I’d say more so I’m interested to just play golf with LeBron,” Curry told reporters on Tuesday at the American Century Championship. “We’ll handle the basketball stuff, but I want to see the golf LeBron free agent. He’s out here really grinding on the game. But I’m sure we obviously would love to play together. I mean, hopefully it happens. But he’s deserved the opportunity and the right to take his time with the decision.”
While the rivalry between the two is well-known, neither has ever shied away from expressing admiration for the other. Particularly, James has stated quite a few times that Curry is a player he wants to play with before his career ends.
If a monumental signing like this were to happen, the Warriors would become his fourth NBA team. Since leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010, James has won titles at every stop while sharing the floor with some of the game’s absolute best, including Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Davis. That elite championship pedigree and wealth of experience would instantly boost a Warriors squad looking to contend for another title.
LeBron James’ agent pinpoints Steph Curry as a reason for LeBron James’ potential Warriors pursuit
Rich Paul made his feelings clear on his client, LeBron James, possibly joining the Warriors.
On the latest episode of his Game Over podcast, Paul wrote on a whiteboard the 10 teams he believes have a realistic chance of signing James in free agency.
According to Paul, the Warriors’ strongest selling point can be summed up in two names.
“Steph and Dray,” Paul said. “You get four-time champions like they are, you get some of the highest basketball IQ in the game, and you get a guy in (team owner) Joe Lacob who wants to win.”
It’s worth noting that Draymond Green, a fellow Klutch Sports client, has a very close friendship with James, which could further strengthen the Warriors’ pursuit.
