Suns vs Hawks Preview and Prediction
The Phoenix Suns have gotten off to a strong start in the new calendar year, boasting an 8-3 record so far. However, their current six-game road trip did not begin on a positive note, with back-to-back losses to the Miami Heat on Jan. 13 and the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 15.
Since then, the Suns have bounced back well. Led by Devin Booker, who is averaging 26.0 points per game over the last three outings, Phoenix is on a three-game winning streak. Those wins came against the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers, pushing the Suns to a 27-17 record.
The Atlanta Hawks, on the other hand, have struggled with consistency lately. They only recently snapped a four-game losing streak with a narrow 124-122 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. That victory was highlighted by a huge performance from Jalen Johnson, who finished with 32 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists.
Johnson also played a major role in the first meeting between these teams on Nov. 16. He recorded 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to help Atlanta secure a 124-122 win at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Arizona. Despite the loss, Phoenix had a silver lining as Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks combined for 61 points on 24-48 shooting.
This time around, the Suns are expected to even the season series. Phoenix is playing some of its best basketball of the season and comes into the matchup healthy. Whereas, Atlanta will be without Zaccharie Risacher, Kristaps Porzingis and N’Faly Dante.
Prediction: Expect the Suns to win by 6 points.
