Rockets vs Pistons Preview and Prediction
The Houston Rockets closed out the calendar year in strong fashion, putting together a three-game winning streak. They were unable to maintain that form in the new year, dropping five of eight games from Jan. 1 through Jan. 15.
The Rockets did bounce back by responding with another three-game win streak, picking up impressive victories against quality opponents such as the Minnesota Timberwolves and the San Antonio Spurs.
Most recently, they suffered a loss on Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers, resulting in their record dropping to 26-16. It now leaves them tied with the Phoenix Suns for fifth place in the Western Conference, with both teams owning the same winning percentage.
Detroit, meanwhile, has been comfortable at the top of the Eastern Conference. The Pistons sit firmly in first place and hold a comfortable 5.5-game lead over the #2 Boston Celtics. Their recent stretch has been especially dominant, winning seven of their last eight games. This run included wins over Eastern Conference rivals such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, the New York Knicks, and the Celtics.
These two teams first faced off on Oct. 24 at the Toyota Center in Texas. In that matchup, Kevin Durant erupted for 37 points, but it was not enough to carry Houston to a win. Led by Cade Cunningham’s 21-point, seven-rebound and nine-assist near triple-double, the Pistons pulled away with a 115-111 victory.
For Friday, Detroit is not expected to be without any key players. With a healthy roster and the form they are currently in, the Pistons enter this game as clear favorites and have a strong chance to secure a 2-0 regular-season series win.
Prediction: Expect the Pistons to win by 8 points.
