Mayor Zohran Mamdani Downplays James Dolan Beef After Knicks Parade Shots

Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, and New York Knicks owner, James Dolan, have seemingly been beefing, and it was glaring during the team’s championship parade. After the franchise won the title, ending a 53-year drought, the team celebrated with a huge victory parade through the streets of New York. The mayor also accompanied the team on the bus. However, everything didn’t seem fine when he came face-to-face with Dolan.

After the parade, Mamdani featured on All In with Chris Hayes, where the host listed several moments when the two met each other with cold glances. Hayes said:

“He (Dolan) was very openly beefing with you and the NYPD during the Finals… After you gave your speech, he sort of gave a crack about how he was not a politician, he’s not gonna list everything, he didn’t seem to wanna take a picture with you when you gave him the key to city. Are you guys cool?”

The mayor downplayed his tussles with Dolan and expressed his love for the city, saying he would do anything to make Knicks fans happy. He responded:

“We’ve spoken both today as well as before. And I think what I appreciated about today is that we were able to work together to make this a day that New Yorkers were able to celebrate and experience, because this is something that people are gonna hold on to for the rest of their lives. I am happy to work with anyone to make sure that’s possible for as many people as can be possible.”

The beef might have begun when Mamdani canceled the playoff watch party outside Madison Square Garden during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The Knicks owner wasn’t happy with that decision and labeled both Zohran Mamdani and the New York Police Department as “party poopers.”

On the other hand, Mamdani openly denied canceling the event, saying that MSG’s management asked for a small-capacity permit, eventually canceling the party. Even though Dolan also took a shot at the mayor for his address, Mamdani gave a fiery speech for Knicks fans.

The Knicks took their third Larry O’Brien trophy in franchise history to every fan of the city, as Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, with the trophies and the team, took to the NY streets. The event brought together every fan, and New York’s mayor did not let them down.

In his fiery address to fans, Mamdani referred to every name he could think of who was associated with the franchise, from Willis Reed, who brought the other two titles to the city, to Donte DiVincenzo, who was traded to Minnesota.

Even though there might be some disagreement between Dolan and Mamdani, both would have had the same feeling during the championship parade. The defending champions will now go into preparation mode as the league approaches the 2026 NBA Draft.
