Sports commentator and former LA Lakers legend Robert Horry gave his views on Bam Adebayo’s recent feat, scoring 83 points against the Washington Wizards. The Miami Heat won the game 150-129 after the Heat center played for 42 minutes and took 43 attempts and 43 free throws to reach the milestone. However, several fans and analysts have declined to give their nod to the feat.
Talking on an episode of Access SportsNet on ESPN, Horry talked about Adebayo’s 83-point outing, second to just Wilt Chamberlain with 100 points, and said:
“83 points is impressive but it gets to a point you have to respect the game. There were moments in this game it wasn’t respected. It’ll go down as 2nd most in the game, I’m putting an asterisk by this one.”
Even though dropping 83 points in a night is a legendary feat, especially in the current era when teams have good shooters and shot creators, many have questioned several fouls awarded to the Heat center by the officials. The team and the staff, along with referees, looked more adamant to break the record than to have a good game.
While Bam Adebayo has surpassed Kobe Bryant’s 81-point outing, some analysts believe the two were different in certain aspects.

Former NBA player and analyst Charlie Villanueva also joined the bandwagon to chime in on Bam Adebayo’s historic feat. While he acknowledged the amount of hard work it takes to have an 83-point haul in a game, he pointed out that it was not the same as Kobe Bryant’s 81 points against the Toronto Raptors.
Villanueva was part of the Raptors roster when Bryant scored 81 points, and thus, he provided the first-hand experience. He said:
“When we played Kobe, Toronto played the Lakers it was a close game the whole way, they needed Kobe 81 points. In Bam’s case they was up by 30,25 they were fouling so he could get there to beat the record. It’s not the same. To me that 83 is asterisk bro.”
The debate on Adebayo’s historic feat will go on in the NBA world now. Regardless, the Heat has won six consecutive games and looks set for a playoff spot in the postseason.
