The San Antonio Spurs vs the New York Knicks in the 2026 NBA Finals has been a spectacle for fans. While Knicks fans are already known for supporting their favorite team to the extreme, the finishes in the series have more fans out of their homes to support the team. Considering the team is just one step away from clinching the title, fans might be eager to watch history unfold with their own eyes. Hence, the San Antonio Sheriff rolled out protection plans for the team in the arena.
Last time, when the team executed a historic 29-point deficit in Game 4, the crowd outside MSG was out of control, and authorities struggled to control the situation. Keeping that in mind, San Antonio Sheriff Javier Salazar took some precautions. He said:
“Really wish more effort had been put out in New York…We’re gonna take care of our Spurs, any opposing team, and any Knicks fans…Last week we had mounted patrol, drone unit, K-9, on foot, ATVs…You’ll see that & then some…absolutely more deputies…
“Knicks & their families were very appreciative of our effort…providing an escort to & from hotel…What we saw with our Spurs [in New York], bus getting surrounded & rocked, bad situation waiting to happen…So we’re going to be escorting the Knicks.”
The Spurs will be back in San Antonio for Game 5, where Victor Wembanyama and Co. will try to make a comeback in the series after trailing 1-3. Even though the task is difficult, the Spurs’ young core is talented enough to at least give themselves a chance.
Victor Wembanyama sounds confident of a comeback for San Antonio
After the Spurs suffered a difficult 106-107 loss to the Knicks, Victor Wembanyama was asked whether the team considered a comeback from this stage. He seemed confident of putting up a fight in the finals and said:
“Everybody knows we’re gonna do it.”
De’Aaron Fox’s late-game error of getting a shot up in the final seconds when the Spurs had the ball and the lead cost the team heavily. He has also recieved a lot of criticism from fans for his clutch decision-making. The Spurs will now have to take this one game at a time.
